SEARCH32

The NAWCC Bulletin Search Program

Search 32 was written to search the NAWCC Bulletin index looking for a particular character string. For example, you could enter the string 'Chauncey Jerome' (without the quotes) and it would report on every occurrence of that string in the Index. The Index that comes with the program is current through 1999.

The program requires Windows 95 or 98 and a SVGA monitor. It needs a fairly fast computer. A high end 486 would certainly be plenty. It has not been tested on less than 16M of memory. The print functions have been tested on a number of different ink jet and laser printers, but no attempt has been made to assure it will work on all ink jets or lasers. The print functions have not been tested on dot matrix printers.

To download and install it, you will need about about 15 meg of space on your hard drive. After the installation is complete, you can delete the download materials, so you will only require maybe 6-7 megs of space after that. Note that I don't think I have a virus on my machine, but you should feel free to virus check the program before you execute it!

Steps for the download:

  1. Set up a temporary directory on your hard drive. This is the directory in which you will place the downloaded material.
  2. Click on the DOWNLOAD NOW link on the bottom of this page. That will start the download. The program is about 3.1 megs in size, so it will take a while (maybe an hour) to get it downloaded.
  3. Once you get search.zip downloaded, you will have to unzip it. When unzipped, you will end up with about 21 files. One of these files is SETUP.EXE.
  4. If you have Search32 currently installed, you should remove it by using the "Add/Remove Programs" function in the Control Panel. If you try installing over the old program, it will try to install both versions which will result in a lot of confusion.
  5. Run SETUP.EXE out of the temporary library.
  6. The Setup program will ask you to close all applications you have running. Do so, and then click on OK.
  7. The Setup program will then give you a chance to choose the directory into which the program is installed. The normal default is something like:
           C:\PROGRAM FILES\SEARCH32\
This is a good choice, or you may change it if you wish. When you are satisfied with the directory name, click on the picture of the computer.
  8. The Setup program will now run to completion.
  9. An icon and shortcut for Search32 will be placed in your Start Menu, so to invoke the program just click the START button; then the PROGRAMS button; then look for the Search32 Icon.
  10. Delete the temporary library and everything in it.

If you have trouble downloading this program, you may send me a $5 bill to pay for the materials and mailing, and I will send you a copy on diskette. My name and address are listed below.

For comments or corrections, please notify me. You may click on the animated email graphic below. I will maintain this program as long as I have the facilities for testing changes. However, I cannot guarantee that I will fix any problems you may uncover. The program is provided "as is".

If you download the program, please send me an email. That way I will have a way of notifying you if I find a bug, or release a new version. It will also let me know about how many users there are of the program.
