![]() This class was taught by Craig Burgess. Students posing for the class photo are (Left to Right): Dick Ganschow, John Lewandowski, John Acker, Phil Gregory, Pat Holloway, Jay Holloway, Craig Burgess - instructor, Sam Creech, Bob Langston and Earl Wilson. This class, like all classes, was a lot of fun. Saturday morning we discussed the basics of shellac finish and hide glue. We went around the room from table to table looking at the clock case projects to determine the repair options. Lots of historical perspective from Phil Gregory. In fact, between Phil and Craig, it was almost like Click and Clack. The repairs ranged from finish clean up to more challenging veneer issues. We had a good range of repairs to discuss that was enlightening to all. Jay Holloway helped with the hands-on hammer veneering
demonstration. Hammer veneering was the method that was originally used to
adhere veneer to a substrate such as a backboard. The technique of hammer
veneering showed how clamping was not necessary. Received lots of good feedback
on possibilities for future classes, including conducting two weekend classes
about 3 weeks apart to give more opportunity for students to come back with
questions after they had practiced what they had learned. |
