This class was taught by Russ Aikens and Phil Gregory in Plainview, TX. Students were (left to right) Ron Pigot, Willis Wood, Bill Pickett, Larry Brackett, Robert Dennis, Virgil Hart, Tony Young and Arnold Skiles. Herb Walace is the foreground. The class included the making of both a steel and carbide graver, a brass double sided abrasive disk suitable for grinding or polishing verges, a grinding wheel for the lathe with a steel hub and two punches. Examples of tools and techniques for properly maintaining lathes were shown and student's lathes were disassembled. Four lathes were provided for those who did not have one. The class was arranged by Ester Wallace. A good time was had by all. |
