BigBen

Turn your PC into Big Ben and chime the quarters and the hours with the sound of London's most famous bells. This free shareware utility is quite unobtrusive, and will play a section of the Westminster Chimes on each quarter-hour, and will mark each hour with a number of tolls of Big Ben itself.

To run the program you need an IBM-type PC running Windows 95, 98, or NT. You will need some multimedia capability and a sound card, but most PCs these days can run this program without any setup at all.

The program consists of only 2 small files in their own directory. There are no files placed in any of your system directories and there are no modifcations to any existing .ini files or your registry. Simplicity itself!

To Install:

1. Create a subdirectory of C:\PROGRAM FILES\ named BIGBEN.

2. Download the program by clicking on the link below. The program is in ZIP format so you will have to unzip it before you can use it. Unzip it into the C:\PROGRAM FILES\BIGBEN\ directory. Once unzipped, you may delete the zip file if you want to save the disk space.

3. Then simply launch the BigBen program by double clicking on BigBen.exe, or selecting Start/Run and specifying C:\PROGRAM FILES\BIGBEN\BigBen.exe. The program will chime on each quarter hour and additionally will strike on the hour. Put a shortcut to it in your startup group for maximum efficiency. If you change the time on your system clock, the program may take up to a minute to re-synchronise itself.

4. When this program is running, it will place an icon (clock dial) in the system tray at the lower right of your screen. To change any of the program options, just right click that icon and select the "Restore" selection.

5. There are no nag screens in this program, despite it being shareware, but please do register the program (no charge) by sending an Email to the author at the address you will find if you select the program options screen by right clicking on the program icon.
